The sheriff Corrections page lists the jail as a 1,324-bed facility with more than 160 correctional officers and 385,000 square feet of space. A Winnebago County telecommunications RFP issued June 25, 2025 lists 1,322 beds and a current average daily population of 711. The 2025 sheriff bookings and releases PDF lists a 2025 average daily population of 745, with 9,289 bookings and 9,222 releases for the year.
The population is not a fixed group. County research describes an average length of stay of about 35 days, which means annual bookings are much higher than the number of people held on an average day.
